Safeguarding Children Boards

Children can only be safeguarded properly if agencies work effectively together. Local safeguarding children boards (LSCBs) are designed to help ensure that this happens. They put the former Area Child Protection Committees (ACPCs) on a statutory footing through the Children Act 2004.

LSCB's include representatives of local authorities, health bodies, the police, schools, voluntary organisations and many others. The objective of LSCBs is to coordinate and to ensure the effectiveness of their member agencies in safeguarding children.

Wiltshire LSCB's objectives are to co-ordinate local work to safeguard and promote welfare of children, and to ensure the effectiveness of that work. These objectives are pursued through functions including:

The above help to produce outputs that evaluate the effectiveness of programmes and advise on ways to improve effective local work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children

Reduce Offending – Relationships

The welfare, protection and support of children and families remains at the heart of what we do. By working directly with offenders in terms of their attitudes to offending, and by working with them to reduce their offending, we indirectly contribute to improving the life chances of children and families. Probation also has a role to protect children at risk from the activities of offenders, which is paramount to all that we do.
