Glowing feedback for Community Payback project in Downton

The Community Payback team visited Downton, Salisbury, on consecutive weekends in November to carry out various clearing, sweeping and painting jobs in The Borough, at the Cemetery and around St Laurence’s Church.

Bev Cornish, Clerk to Downton Parish Council, commented: “I have received many positive comments about the stretch of pavement along The Borough and in the alleyway in Snail Creep because both sites had been causing longstanding problems for residents. The work has greatly improved the paths for pedestrians and, in particular, for wheelchair users and mothers with prams and pushchairs.”

“The Council is also extremely grateful to the team for the work they did on sweeping, clearing and tidying the outside of the Memorial Hall ahead of the Remembrance Day Service on 8 November. All members of the Council who attended agreed that the Hall looked in excellent condition for such an important service.”

The service the Community Payback team provides is of a high quality and appreciated greatly as it enables the Parish Council to maintain key parts of the village at minimal cost to residents.

Feedback from the offenders that worked on the project was very positive, they felt it was “a worthwhile project because the memorial service shows support to soldiers killed in the wars, and it showed us doing our bit to help.”
