Opening Doors is a new Volunteer Mentoring Scheme for offenders in
Wiltshire and we are currently looking for motivated, dedicated and
committed volunteers who are ready for a new challenge.
The scheme has been set up in partnership with Wiltshire Probation Trust and the Diocese of Salisbury and aims to make a positive difference to offenders’ lives. In doing so, the chances that an individual may commit another offence are reduced and the work that Volunteer Mentors do will in turn benefit both offenders and our local communities. The benefits for Volunteer Mentors also include an opportunity to meet new people, new and improved skills, personal challenge, work experience and increased career options.
Opening Doors recognises that Volunteer Mentors have an enormous contribution to make to the prevention of re-offending and the great benefits that they can bring in working with offenders, such as;
Volunteer Mentors work with offenders who are supervised by Wiltshire Probation Trust and alongside Probation staff. A full three day Induction Programme is offered for applicants so no prior experience or knowledge is needed.
We are fully aware that Volunteer Mentors are giving up their free time to work with us; work that can be very rewarding but also very challenging and difficult at times. We provide Volunteer Mentors with a high level of support and guidance and we do all we can to ensure that the experience of volunteering with us is as rewarding and enjoyable as possible.
Volunteer Mentors are required to be over the age of 21 and asked to offer a minimum of two hours a week for six months.
If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Mentor or would like further information, please contact Laura Sexton, Volunteer Project Co-ordinator, on 01249 656836. Alternatively, you can e-mail Laura at volunteer@wiltshireprobation.org.uk.
